In a display of sheer brilliance and unwavering skill, LΓ€ufer Chess Club emerged as the triumphant champions in the highly anticipated Sri Lanka National Team (Super League) Chess Championship 2023. Held at the prestigious Sports Ministry Pavilion in Torrington, Colombo, from July 28th to August 1st, this premium chess tournament witnessed intense competition among the nation's top chess teams. 


The Sri Lanka National Team (Super League) Chess Championship 2023, organized by the Chess Federation of Sri Lanka, proved to be a grand celebration of the art of chess. With a prize pool of nearly Rs 600,000.00, alongside medals, certificates, and coveted trophies, this championship drew the best teams in the country to compete for ultimate glory.


In a riveting nine-round round-robin format, the championship showcased intense battles of strategic brilliance. Each team displayed their finest tactics, each move contributing to the unfolding drama on the chessboard. Ten elite teams were selected to vie for the prestigious title, creating an atmosphere of exhilaration and anticipation.


In a display of unmatched prowess, LΓ€ufer Chess Club proved their dominance throughout the event. With unwavering determination and impeccable gameplay, they remained unbeaten and conceded only one draw in the entire championship. Their resolute performances earned them the championship even before the start of the last round, leaving no doubt about their unrivalled skills. They concluded the tournament with an impressive score of 17 match points, crowning them the undisputed champions.

Fischer Chess Club demonstrated exceptional skill and teamwork, earning the first runners-up position with an impressive tally of 12 match points. Their tenacity and brilliance added to the excitement of the championship, solidifying their place among the top contenders.

The second runners-up position was claimed by Super Knights Chess Club, showcasing their formidable skills with a commendable score of 11 match points. Their impressive gameplay and strategic prowess were acknowledged by chess enthusiasts and competitors alike.

Commencing on the 21st of August 2023 at the Army Cantonment, Panagoda, the Sri Lanka Army Inter-Regiments Chess Championship 2023 is now underway. A total of 80 participants representing 10 regiments are competing in various categories including individual standard, rapid team, and individual blitz events. The championship is scheduled to continue until the 24th of August 2023. The annual organization of this championship by the Sri Lanka Army Chess Committee and the Directorate of Sports serves the dual purpose of nurturing the game's development among Army personnel and showcasing the talents of adept players.
