  In a display of exceptional chess talent and strategic prowess, the University of Moratuwa secured the championship title in the Men's event, while the University of Peradeniya emerged victorious in the Women's event at the XIV SLUG Chess Championships 2023. Commencing on the 21st of August 2023 at the Army Cantonment, Panagoda, the Sri Lanka Army Inter-Regiments Chess Championship 2023 is now underway. A total of 80 participants representing 10 regiments are competing in various categories including individual standard, rapid team, and individual blitz events. The championship is scheduled to continue until the 24th of August 2023. The annual organization of this championship by the Sri Lanka Army Chess Committee and the Directorate of Sports serves the dual purpose of nurturing the game's development among Army personnel and showcasing the talents of adept players.

Girls' Winner - Januki Alwis Boys' Winner - Damsara Bandara Rajanayake The Sri Lanka Junior & Girls National Chess Championships 2023 took place from 18th to 21st August 2023 at Berrewaerts Royal College, Ampitiya, Kandy. Organized by the Kandy District Chess Association on behalf of the Chess Federation of Sri Lanka, both championships followed a 9-round Swiss system format with a time control of 90 minutes plus a 30-second increment from move 01. A total cash fund of Rs 180,000.00 was allocated, along with medals, certificates, and trophies to the winners. In the Open championship, 368 participants contended for victory.
